Pahal

PAHAL is a community-driven educational initiative launched on February 6, 2023, by student volunteers and faculty of Muzaffarpur Institute of Technology (MIT), Muzaffarpur. Driven by the core belief that “Education is not just preparation for life, but life itself,” the initiative delivers structured, free-of-cost tutoring, mentorship, and foundational learning to underprivileged children and students from government schools across the local community.

Wings of PAHAL

Foundational School Wing (Nursery to Class 10):

Inception: Began in February 2023 with young children residing in the vicinity of the college campus.
Current Reach: Over 54 regular attendees, comprising ~28 foundational learners (Nursery, LKG, UKG, Classes 1–2) and ~26 primary/middle school students (Classes 3–10).
Venue: Campus facility in front of Damodar Hostel and the institute premises.
Curriculum & Mentorship: Daily academic mentoring, literacy, basic numeracy, life skills, and creative arts delivered by MIT student volunteers.

Higher Secondary & Competitive Guidance Wing (Classes 11–12, JEE & NEET):

Inception: Commenced on December 23, 2023, aiming to democratize access to premier engineering and medical entrance coaching.
Student Beneficiaries: Around 150 registered 11th and 12th-grade students from 10 neighboring government schools.
Academic Team: Actively taught and mentored by MIT faculty members and dedicated student mentors covering Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Biology.
Schedule & Venue: Daily evening remedial and competitive classes from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Main Building, MIT Muzaffarpur.
Administration: Coordinated through dedicated communication channels involving students, faculty, and principals of participating government schools.

Holistic Development & Milestones

Academic Rigor: Regular homework assignments, doubt-clearing sessions, and recurring class tests to track academic progress.
National & Cultural Celebrations: On the occasion of the 75th Republic Day, PAHAL learners organized cultural performances, speech sessions, an institution-wide painting competition, and campus plantation drives.
Institutional Support: Broad financial and material backing from faculty members and administration to provide books, stationery, and learning aids.
Future Roadmap: Expansion plans include institutionalizing classes at the Bal Niketan school within the MIT campus to provide permanent classroom infrastructure.

Message from the Professor in Charge

True education extends beyond the walls of classrooms and laboratories; its highest purpose is achieved when knowledge serves society and uplifts those who need it most. The PAHAL initiative represents this shared commitment of the students and faculty at MIT Muzaffarpur.

What began in February 2023 as an earnest, grassroots effort to teach foundational literacy to neighborhood children has expanded into an impactful academic outreach program. From nurturing foundational learners to mentoring around 150 ambitious government school students for rigorous national examinations like JEE and NEET, our volunteers have demonstrated that quality guidance can break barriers of privilege.

PAHAL is not merely about teaching academic subjects; it is an effort to build confidence, instill self-reliance, and empower young minds with the conviction that their aspirations are attainable. The dedication of our student mentors, combined with the guidance and voluntary financial contributions of our faculty, embodies the spirit of social responsibility that MIT Muzaffarpur stands for.
